[Edaily Reporter Lim Yoo-kyung] The Korea Communications Commission and the Korea Information and Communication Policy Institute held the '5th International Conference on User Protection in the Intelligent Information Society' with the theme of 'Generative AI and Humans' at Myeong-dong Post Tower on the 1st.

The International Conference on User Protection in the Intelligent Information Society is an event to discuss ethical issues and governance-related matters in new technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), artificial intelligence, and metaverse with domestic and foreign experts. This year, with the theme of 'Generative AI and Humans', we will discuss cooperation and conflict between AI and humans, which have become a hot topic in our society with the advent of ChatGPT.

The conference consisted of a total of three sessions. The first session is focused on academia, with Professor Sham Sunder of Pennsylvania State University giving a keynote presentation on ways to build trust based on social responsibility under the theme of 'Generative AI and Human Psychology', followed by Professor Seong Yong-jun of Korea University. Under the theme of ‘The Era of Artificial Intelligence’, he will give a presentation on trust and privacy for AI technology.

In the second session, Microsoft (MS) Asia General Manager Mike Yeh, representing the industry, gave a presentation on ethical and sustainable artificial intelligence under the theme of 'Challenges and Opportunities in the Era of Generative AI', followed by Naver Cloud Leader Lee Hwa-ran. Under the theme of ‘Responsible AI’, we will present a safe and reliable super-large language model.

In the final session, domestic and foreign experts will discuss the topic 'Generative AI and humans'. Professor Lee Jun-hwan of Seoul National University will serve as moderator, and the presenters, Professor Sang-wook Lee of Hanyang University, Professor Jaesik Choi of KAIST, Hyun-kyung Lee, associate research fellow at the Information and Communication Policy Institute, and Seok-hyeon Han, director of the Seoul YMCA, will participate in the discussion.

Based on the various opinions discussed at today's conference, the Korea Communications Commission said that the principles that our society pursues as community values, such as public safety, human rights protection, and democratic decision-making, will be maintained in artificial intelligence services without hindering the revitalization of the artificial intelligence industry. He announced that he would prepare related systems to enable this.
