Google Korea launched the '2024 Digital Responsibility Committee' to create a responsible digital ecosystem.

Google Korea announced on the 14th that it held a launch ceremony for the Digital Responsibility Committee at the National Assembly Hall on the afternoon of the 13th. The launch ceremony was attended by National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo and National Assembly Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee Chairman Lee Sang-heon.

Kim Kyung-hoon, President of Google Korea, said, “I am pleased to be able to introduce the Digital Responsibility Committee, which embodies Google Korea’s will to create a responsible digital ecosystem at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea,” and added, “We will actively listen to the opinions of experts from various fields, including the National Assembly, to create a healthy digital ecosystem.” “We will consider more roles and responsibilities for the ecosystem together,” he said.

Industry experts from IT/technology, law, media/content, and consumer protection participate in the committee. We plan to establish a forum for constructive communication that will lead to the development of the domestic digital ecosystem and seek directions for a 'responsible digital ecosystem' with industry experts.

The committee consists of three forums and a comprehensive forum linked to them. In addition to the 'App Ecosystem Forum', which has been in operation since 2020, 'YouTube Open Forum' and 'Responsible AI Forum' were added this year.

The App Ecosystem Forum was created to share various perspectives surrounding the domestic app ecosystem and contribute to the sustainable development and coexistence of the app ecosystem through healthy communication. The YouTube Open Forum examines major issues and changes in the content industry, including the YouTube platform, and discusses desirable development directions from a socio-cultural and policy perspective. Seong Ki-hyeon, adjunct professor at Yonsei University Graduate School of Journalism and Public Relations, served as chairperson. The Responsible AI Forum, which seeks ways to develop and utilize AI, is chaired and led by KAIST Professor Jaesik Choi.
