On the 29th, Minister of Science and ICT Yoo Sang-im visited the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (President Bang Seung-chan, hereinafter referred to as ETRI), the first research site in the field of artificial intelligence and semiconductors, with the goal of making Korea one of the world’s top three powerhouses in the three game-changing technologies (artificial intelligence, semiconductors, advanced bio, and quantum). He listened to the institute’s research results and strategies, encouraged related researchers directly, and held an industry-academia-research meeting.
First, I visited the ETRI artificial intelligence (AI) research site and directly demonstrated the representative AI technologies for multinational voice recognition interpretation services and text-based image generation, and expressed my gratitude for the hard work and passion of the research team leading the public sector application and commercialization of single intelligence source technologies such as voice, language, and vision.
After hearing ETRI’s strategy for world-class R&D in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors, a discussion was held with participants from industry, academia, and research. In particular, a forum for in-depth mutual discussion on the future technology leadership strategy of artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors was prepared based on various opinions from the field of innovation entities due to the global technology hegemony competition.
On this day, from the industrial sector, Vice President Do Chang-ho of SK Hynix, Chief Technology Officer Jin-wook Oh of Rebellion, Director Young-beom Jeong of Furiosa AI, Head of Conan Technology Wan-taek Lim, and CEO Tae-jun Yoo of Mind AI were in attendance, and from the academic sector, Professor Jaesik Choi of KAIST and Professor Seong-hun Lim of Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology were in attendance.
