KG Steel automatically controls the temperature of the continuous hot dip galvanizing (CGL) process using an artificial intelligence (AI) system.
KG Steel (016380) announced on the 28th that it had developed 'optimal control technology for artificial intelligence heating for continuous hot dip galvanizing process' in collaboration with INEEJI Co., Ltd. and KG ICT Co., Ltd. and began pilot operation on the 23rd.
KG Steel plans to apply a full AI control system in the first half of next year after completing pilot operations and upgrading and verifying AI performance by February next year.
AI learns worker behavior according to jointly developed technology to predict and control the optimal temperature of all eight sections of KG Steel's continuous hot dip galvanizing process heating. Through this, production quality is improved and liquefied natural gas (LNG) usage is reduced, and KG Steel is expected to achieve cost savings equivalent to 450 million won per year.
A KG Steel official said, “Yield declines and excessive energy use have occasionally occurred due to temperature changes. By introducing AI technology, we will improve production quality and reduce costs by eliminating inefficiencies.”
In addition, KG Steel uses AI technology to build a safe working environment and promotes digital transformation (DT) manpower training. KG Steel explains that it will reduce worker fatigue through process variable control operation while continuously securing human resources to build a smart factory.
