AI Session

“Other than the U.S. and China, Korea is the only country that has succeeded in building its own artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem. “We will utilize our experience in building our own ecosystem to enter the overseas AI market.”

Ha Jeong-woo, head of Naver Cloud's AI Innovation Center, said at the AI session of 'Korea Investment Week (KIW) 2023' held at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido-dong, Seoul on the 11th, saying, "We will carry out a project to transplant the AI ecosystem to Japan, the Middle East and Southeast Asia." Center Director Ha introduced the business expansion strategy of Naver's ultra-large AI HyperclovaX, which was launched on the 24th of last month.

He believed that there was a large niche market that could not be captured by the United States and China, which dominated AI hegemony. Center Director Ha explains that there will be demand to implement their own AI ecosystem in countries that are concerned about technological dependence on the United States and China. Naver is already expanding its AI ecosystem with over 700 domestic startups. Center Director Ha said, “We will differentiate ourselves by building our own AI ecosystem overseas in accordance with the local language,” and added, “We will not simply provide super-large AI, but we will build local data and create an AI model together with local governments and companies.” He said.

The next speaker, Jaesik Choi, a professor at the Jaecheol Kim Graduate School of AI at KAIST, introduced ‘Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI)’ among generative AI. XAI refers to a technology that provides humans with the basis for the results generated by AI. When a picture of a cat is entered into AI, it says, 'There is a 95% probability that it is a cat because it is an animal with fur and whiskers and ears that are close to triangular in shape.' If this technology is applied to industrial sites, an algorithm that satisfies specific conditions or has a low probability of defective products can be quickly found.

Lee Se-young, CEO of Lutton Technologies, predicted that the ‘middle market (middle layer)’ will be the biggest beneficiary of generative AI technology. The middle layer is an intermediate step that connects a general-purpose AI model to a website or app.
