[Korea University Newspaper Reporter Joo Ji-young] As interest in artificial intelligence (AI) deepens with the advent of ChatGPT, experts from the education and academia gathered to share ways to use the online education platform Udacity and cases of introduction at domestic universities. The scene unfolded.

On the 14th, the '1st Uda City AI Forum for Cultivating 2023 Global Future Talents' was held at the Hoam Faculty Center Convention Center of Seoul National University. The forum was hosted by UDACITY, UDACITY Korea Partner, and our magazine.

On this day, the forum included △Anders Fabry, General Manager of Udacity Asia, △Professor Hongki Kim of Seoul National University (Head of the Big Data Innovation Convergence University Project), △Professor Jaesik Choi of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST, KAIST) (Expert Member of the Artificial Intelligence Association), and △Namsik Lee, President of Incheon University for Talented Arts. About 90 experts from education and academia attended, including △ Kim Mi-sook, CEO of Purum Human Resources Development Institute, △ Kim Bong-jae, head of Hyundai Futurenet, △ Lee Han-bin, CEO of Seoul Robotics, and △ Hong Jun, CEO and publisher of this magazine.

Udacity is an American online learning platform. We provide technical education programs required by companies in the form of a nano degree course. The curriculum content provided by Udacity is produced by partner companies. Students who use Udacity can develop practical skills. Companies can also secure talent that can be immediately deployed to industrial sites.

In his welcoming speech, Sebastian Thrun, CEO of Udacity, said, “With science and technology developing at a rapid pace, Udacity has established itself as a tool to reduce the competency gap in the labor market,” adding, “Continuing to strengthen competency and retrain workers are essential.” It's done. We are at the forefront of technological transformation. We have high expectations for the infinite possibilities that AI will provide for learning and the future. “I hope that this forum will be an opportunity to confirm the potential of AI and embrace it together.”

“AI is changing our daily lives,” said Phil Duggan, Vice President of Growth Markets. “It is important to recognize and utilize the importance of AI in the education world,” he said. “Udacity provides a new type of teaching method that learns through practical work and lectures. “We help them not only learn in the classroom but also apply it in practice.”

In his congratulatory address, Professor Jaesik Choi of KAIST explained, “Udacity’s project aims to share best practices from universities, companies, and overseas to develop the capabilities of future talents to change the world through artificial intelligence.”

Professor Choi continued, “Artificial intelligence is rapidly spreading to all fields of our society,” and added, “Talented people who can understand and utilize artificial intelligence technology are key talents who will lead the future society.”

■ Professor Kim Hong-ki of Seoul National University “The key is to ask appropriate questions to AI” = Professor Kim Hong-ki advised that future teaching methods should go in the direction of improving students’ metacognition. Professor Kim argued that students can actively utilize AI in industrial settings by asking specific questions to AI based on expanded metacognition.

In his presentation on 'Heterogeneous Convergence Era: Coexistence of Humans and Machines', Professor Kim predicted that the role of Prompt Engineering will become important in the future with the emergence of Large Language Models (LLM) such as ChatGPT. did. He emphasized, “From now on, we need to teach students how to approach prompts.”

Prompt engineering refers to the task of constructing optimal prompts from LLM. Professor Kim said, “We can increase work efficiency only by asking appropriate questions to AI and receiving optimal answers. “You can quickly get high-quality answers through specific prompting,” he said. “Recent learning themes are based on prompts. “We teach how to ask AI questions and receive answers using prompts,” he said.

In addition, Professor Kim explained that metacognition improvement is necessary for detailed prompting. He emphasized, “We must help students find the truth on their own and find answers by asking questions in the process of solving problems,” and added, “A student-centered learning method must be established.”

Professor Kim said, “I had a lot of concerns about how data would lead academia and industry,” and added, “Now, the traditional methods of education, evaluation, and talent will change. “It will be difficult for even top universities to survive with the current education method,” he analyzed.

■ Lee Nam-sik, President of Incheon Talent University, “Publicization of the flexible learning system that controls progress… “Udacity must be actively used” = President Lee Nam-sik argued that in an era where individual capabilities are important, new types of educational programs such as Udacity must be actively introduced.

President Lee said this in a lecture on 'Uda City University Use Case: How to Do AI Education?' and analyzed that it is time for a change in the education paradigm.

In particular, President Lee emphasized that the role of professors should be changed to coaching. He explained, “Coaching teaching methods are needed in industrial human resource training institutions such as junior colleges,” and “We need to motivate students and provide support so that they can quickly acquire competencies in related fields.”

President Lee also said, “It is time to think about ‘how to learn,’” adding, “There will no longer be a need for education that provides fixed answers. “We need to change our teaching methods in a way that allows students to discover, learn, and solve problems on their own,” he said.

Analysis also showed that the role of universities will be reduced in the future. He said, “A flexible academic system that adjusts the learning progress according to the individual’s required job competencies is becoming popular. “The educational paradigm is changing in the direction of individuals finding their purpose and mission in the world, what problems they want to solve,” he said. “As the number of institutions awarding nano degrees increases, the role of universities in awarding degrees will decrease.”

Additionally, on this day, Kim Myeong-ho, a professor of computer software at Incheon Talent University, attracted attention by sharing the results of the 'practical artificial intelligence' education conducted at the university.

According to Professor Kim, Incheon Talent University developed a practical artificial intelligence curriculum and teaching materials and achieved achievements such as winning the AI-X hackathon grand prize, participating in an overseas AI company internship program, and presenting a paper at a conference on practical artificial intelligence education methods.

Professor Kim advised that the entry barrier to practical artificial intelligence education should be lowered so that students can use AI without understanding coding or mathematics. He said, “We need a ‘No code, low code’ perspective to approach problems,” and “We need to teach students how to solve problems strategically without understanding coding or mathematics.” .

■ Anders Fabry “Udacity will improve the technological competency gap between students” = A lecture on ‘Main points of Udacity education and overseas cases including the U.S.’ by Anders Fabry, General Manager of Asia, continued.

Anders said, “Udacity is a program created in the hope that students will be able to promote innovation and identify and improve technological competency gaps,” adding, “We have conducted programs to nurture digital talent in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). “He introduced.

He went on to explain, “Udacity focuses on technology-related education through Nano Degree, and although the scope is narrow, it teaches very deeply.” He added, “Industry experts and small and medium-sized businesses participate in the program with a focus on practical projects.”

An introduction to the Udacity Nanodegree program followed. He said, “Udacity’s Nano Degree offers classes on artificial intelligence (AI), computer vision, deep learning, etc.” and “Each class is divided into courses and is designed so that you must complete each course to proceed to the next course.” .

The tightly structured program served as the foundation for Udacity’s expansion into overseas markets. In fact, Udacity is being used as a program to nurture digital talent in the United States, the European Union (EU), Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Jordan, Uzbekistan, Egypt, and Chile.

In the subsequent presentation, Lee Han-bin, CEO of Seoul Robotics, who started a business after taking the Udacity course and is achieving results, introduced corporate use cases. CEO Lee Han-bin said, “After being discharged from the military, I was taking various programs when I came across the Udacity course. I am using the driving technology using artificial intelligence that I learned here to develop factory automation and autonomous driving sensors and continue to pursue various businesses.” explained.

The technology developed by Seoul Robotics was applied to the automobile factory in Munich, Germany to enable efficient transportation of cars that have completed the production process, and the sensors mounted on existing self-driving cars are converted into autonomous sensors and applied to the infrastructure to meet customer needs. True, various technologies are being developed and are producing results.

CEO Lee said, “The Udacity course had a big influence on what started as a study session and led to entrepreneurship. “Currently, we are supporting new employees so that they can take the Udacity course,” he said. “We are also continuing to network with people we met while taking the Udacity course.” “It’s one of the advantages of the Udacity course.”
