Artificial intelligence (AI) reduces energy consumption in the manufacturing process, increases productivity and quality, and contributes to carbon neutrality.
Yoonseok Jang, INEEJI's Business Director, gave a presentation on the topic of ‘Autonomous Manufacturing and Carbon Neutrality Using AI’ at the ‘2024 Autonomous Manufacturing World Congress’ on the 11th.
The manufacturing industry is in a situation where it must increase productivity and quality while responding to environmental regulations such as the Carbon Border Adjustment (CBAM). Furthermore, as the population decreases and the retirement age of skilled workers approaches, it is expected that it will be difficult to maintain productivity using existing methods.
Accordingly, 'autonomous manufacturing', a production system that minimizes human intervention using digital technologies including AI, has emerged as an alternative.
Yoonseok Jang, Chief Business Officer, said, “We are optimizing various industrial processes with AI to reduce energy costs and contribute to improving productivity and quality.”
Energy conservation is not easy in manufacturing because quality and production goals are set. To reduce electricity usage at home, you can raise the temperature of the air conditioner, but the power usage of production facilities cannot be easily controlled.
Jang, the CEO of Business Division, said, “Reducing the energy used in the process and managing the carbon generated are homework for the manufacturing industry,” and added, “Based on AI predictive technology, we are optimizing various production processes such as steel, oil refining, chemicals, and cement, and are also improving carbon emission measurement technology.”
He introduced three ways to utilize AI in the manufacturing industry: ▲AI precision control of equipment ▲Data-based decision-making on production conditions and schedules ▲Collaboration with people through explainable AI.
Director Yoonseok Jang said, “Manufacturing goals such as quality improvement, increased production efficiency, and energy conservation can be achieved through digital transformation and AI.”
