“I think safety is very important for artificial intelligence (AI) services that have a significant impact on people’s lives and property. From the consumer’s perspective, we need to think more about the safety of AI.”

Professor Jaesik Choi of KAIST's Kim Jae-chul AI Graduate School said this while giving a keynote speech on the topic of "Technology for Safely Using Generative Artificial Intelligence" at the 'Artificial Intelligence Forum (AIF) 2024' held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, hosted by Sisa Journal e on the 12th.

Professor Jaesik Choi first emphasized that the global economic impact of generative AI technology is very large. Professor Choi said, “The economic impact of artificial intelligence, which has grown since 2017, is estimated to reach 15.7 trillion dollars by 2030,” adding, “This is about eight times the GDP of our country and is expected to affect about 15% of the global GDP.”

Professor Choi explained that AI technology advancements are taking place in various fields. He said, “AI advancements have not necessarily occurred only in reinforcement learning and generative AI.” He added, “About 20 years ago, in 2004, the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) hosted the Grand Challenge, an autonomous vehicle racing competition, and autonomous vehicle technology has become active. In 2016, there was the AlphaGo-Lee Sedol match, but image recognition performance has improved significantly since then.”

He added, “Around 2019, the use of AI technology in digital marketing, which predicts what to advertise to people and how much to sell, based on data, has increased significantly.”
