Google Korea announced on the 16th that it held the closing ceremony of the '2024 Google Korea Digital Responsibility Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Committee)' on the 5th, looked back on the past year's activities to seek the direction of a responsible digital ecosystem, and shared future plans.

Google Korea launched a company-wide committee in March of this year to provide a forum for communication covering core areas of the digital ecosystem, including artificial intelligence (AI), content, and the app/game industry. It has since held three forums, including the “App Ecosystem Forum,” “YouTube Open Forum,” and “Responsible AI Forum,” once per quarter, for a total of four times to engage in timely discussions surrounding the digital ecosystem. A total of 39 experts who have contributed to the development of the digital ecosystem in various fields, including IT/technology, law, media/content, and consumer protection, participated in heated discussions, and at each session, experts from academia and industry, government officials, and Google executives and employees were invited as speakers to provide broad and in-depth views.

About 50 forum members and Google Korea executives who attended the closing ceremony agreed that the committee served as a foundation for preparing for responsible growth and innovation in the digital ecosystem, and evaluated it as an opportunity to view the digital ecosystem from multiple perspectives. In particular, with AI technology and YouTube content emerging as hot topics in the digital ecosystem, many said that the newly established Responsible AI Forum and YouTube Open Forum were timely venues for discussion.

In addition, the committee shared the main contents of each forum through quarterly newsletters, and continued active exchanges between forums by attending forums other than the one it belonged to and sharing various opinions based on each person’s expertise. The members expressed their hope that Google Korea would continue to communicate with various participants in the digital ecosystem through various activities including the committee and listen to balanced opinions.

Jaesik Choi, a professor at KAIST's Kim Jae-chul AI Graduate School, said, "It was a meaningful time to deeply think about responsible AI development and utilization methods with experts active in various fields such as law, technology, and management." He added, "It was impressive to see Google leading the AI ecosystem with its generative AI 'Gemini', and thinking fiercely about how to develop more responsible and useful AI technology."
