The 'AI Consumer Forum' has been launched to evaluate the fairness and reliability of artificial intelligence (AI) from a consumer perspective and discuss establishing policies and legislation to protect consumer rights.

 

The Korea Consumer Agency and the Korea Artificial Intelligence Law Society held the AI ​​Consumer Forum launch ceremony at the Korea Press Center in Seoul on the 7th.

The forum was formed to protect consumers amid the rapid development of AI, as various ethical and legal issues arise, such as bias in AI algorithms, privacy issues, and responsibility for AI-based consumer services.

 

The co-chairs of the AI ​​Consumer Forum are Kang Jeong-hwa, President of the Consumers' Federation, and Choi Gyeong-jin, President of the Artificial Intelligence Law Society.

The forum members included officials from the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Korea Communications Commission, the Personal Information Protection Commission, and the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI), as well as the presidents of the Korea Internet & Security Agency, the Korea Artificial Intelligence Technology Industry Association, and the Korea Online Shopping Association, as well as industry, academia, and experts.

 

From the industry, AWS Vice President Kim Young-hoon, Google Korea Managing Director Park Seon-min, Naver Executive Director Son Ji-yoon, Kakao Vice President Woo Young-gyu, Predictive AI CEO Yoon Sa-joong, MS Korea Director Yoon Hee-sik, SKT Vice President Lee Young-tak, and Meta Vice President Heo Wook participated.

 

Experts include Professor Byun Soon-yong of Seoul National University, Attorney Byun Woong-jae, Professor Choi Nan-seol-heon of Yonsei University, Professor Choi Se-jeong of Korea University, and Professor Jaesik Choi of KAIST. Civic groups include Oh Byeong-il, head of the Progressive Network Center, Lee Jeong-su, secretary general of the Korea Consumer Agency, and Jeong Ji-yeon, secretary general of the Consumers’ Federation.

 

The AI ​​Consumer Forum will work to ensure that future discussions lead to actual policy proposals and improvements to laws and systems.
